Wisdom Tooth Log: Wisdom Tooth Weekend

Posted by admin on July 21st, 2008 filed in Uncategorized

I lasted a weekend. Basically, the dull throb of pain is what I’m coming to expect from normal life. It is getting less as the days go on, though. Thank goodness. But, unfortunately, a new problem has surfaced in it’s wake. To keep things contained in the back of my mouth, the dentist applied suchers (medicalese for “really big stitches made from gently used rope”). They prevent dry socket infections since they hold in the blood clots, but they also rub constantly on the area, causing irritation and (in my case) ulcers. Yep, open sores in the back of my mouth, making it painful to keep my mouth shut, open, swallow, or anything really. It feels like when you get a popcorn shell stuck in your mouth and it’s dug into your gums. Except this popcorn shell woke me up three times last night. Blech. Wisdom teeth are not pleasant. If you have to get them out, understand that it is bearable and can be managed, but you are best off getting them out as soon as possible, especially if you have about a week that you can spare.
