Some comments cropped up after I published my thoughts on the subject, specifically the leap of homosexuality causing world crises, like the economic depression we’re entering. Below is my rationalization.

I think everyone agrees that the current economic downturn is too complicated to pin it on a single cause. It’s not just naked short selling on Wall Street or bad credit or mortgages or corruption that caused what we’re dealing with right now, it’s a sum total of a number of issues we’ve been seeing as a rising trend for years. I actually read an article a year or so ago that detailed what was going to happen to the economy, starting with the collapse of Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac, and rolling into problems on wall street and in the world at large. Thinking back on it is kind of chilling, in that it was so accurate (if I find it again I’ll link up to it).

My connection with the economic crisis and homosexuality is the root of the causes listed above and same-sex attraction itself. Wall street traders, banks, the Fed, and even the mortgage owners that are drowning right now all agree that the failure in our economy was the people involved in it (aka, everybody). People have just become too greedy and selfish. Naked short selling, for instance, is purely a short-cut that is driven by greed. Mortgage failures are brought on by people wanting huge homes for less of a cost. They picked up easy mortgages with a lot of the necessary red-tape removed. When time came to pay the bills, they defaulted, resulting in the failures we are seeing across lending institutions everywhere.

Ultimately, it comes down to selfish attitudes, and that is where the connection is made to homosexuality. Individuals act based upon their attitudes and internal dialogue. Really, you are what you think. When a selfish behavior takes root and grows – even if that behavior is only in your attitude – it will lead to other selfish behaviors which will eventually manifest themselves in outward actions. Such is the case with homosexuality. I could expound on this myself, but Boyd K. Packer spoke on the subject in a much more eloquent manner than I ever could.

The following is an excerpt of from a talk given by Boyd K. Packer entitled “To The One.” It was given at a Brigham Young University 12-Stake Fireside in March 1978.

Have you explored the possibility that the cause [of homosexuality], when found, will turn out to be a very typical form of selfishness? … If one could even experiment with the possibility that selfishness of a very subtle nature may be the cause of this disorder, that quickly clarifies many things. It opens the possibility of putting some very sick things in order. … Consider this: One cannot procreate alone. And this: One cannot procreate with his own gender. These are absolutes. And there is a third: One cannot procreate without yielding or giving. … I repeat, we have had very little success in trying to remedy perversion by treating perversion. It is very possible to cure it by treating selfishness.

If it is agreed that this economic crisis (among many, many other challenges we face today in the world – look at other “crises” or “conflicts” in the news and just see if selfishness connects there too) was caused by selfish behaviors, that selfish behaviors are cultivated by selfish thoughts and acts, and by the above that Homosexuality is subtly rooted in selfishness, it is therefore understood that homosexual tendencies can, do, and will lead to future struggles in the human family.
